Overlooked by the ancient hill-fort of Hambledon Hill, with the River Stour meandering by in the foreground, Shillingstone was probably the most picturesque station on the former Somerset and Dorset Railway. The Shillingstone Railway Project aims not only to restore the station and available surrounding area to how it was in the early 1950s and 1960s, but also to enhance it.

The North Dorset Trailway is made up of sections of the old Somerset and Dorset Railway which used to link Bristol, Bournemouth and Christchurch. It now extends from Sturminster Newton to Spetisbury, and passes close to the Old Ox Shillingstone, providing an off road trail for walkers & cyclists. The North Dorset Trailway Network is a Charity that is dedicated to extending and improving the Trailway.
Shillingstone Cricket Club is a friendly, sociable and inclusive cricket club who have been playing cricket in the centre of Shillingstone, near the Old Ox Inn since 1910. The club runs three adult sides plus an occasional mixed social team and four junior sides. The club holds its annual presentation evening and awards at the Old Ox Inn.
