A traditional pub at the foot of Hambledon Hill
It’s with very heavy hearts that we share the news that the Old Ox will be closing with immediate effect.
Like so many in the hospitality industry, we’ve been facing increasing financial pressures that have made it impossible for us to continue. This has been an incredibly difficult decision and one we never wanted to make.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the village and wider community for the support, kindness and friendship shown to us over the past few years. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome and that has meant more to us than we can properly put into words.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our past and present staff team your hard work, dedication, and support have meant the world to us and helped make the Old Ox what it has been.
The Old Ox has been more than just a pub to us. It’s been a place of shared stories, laughter, celebrations, and connections. We are truly heartbroken to see this chapter come to an end and will miss you all very much.
Thank you for everything
Shaun & Marcia
The Old Ox Inn aims to be the focal point of village life in Shillingstone Dorset as well as a welcoming venue for visitors.
Inside there is an inviting, lively, vibrant bar, skittle alley, free pool table, a quieter cosy snug restaurant and outside is our large beer garden with superb views of Hambledon Hill.
We have worked in hospitality for some years now and are very keen to maintain the community spirit of the Old Ox Inn and its role as the hub for village life and activities.
We source as much produce locally as possible, we host many local events throughout the year and we support the community to use the pub and skittle alley for their own functions.
If you are part of the Shillingstone community, please let us know if you have any other ideas too.
Within the village we have Shillingstone Cricket Club, Football Club and various Skittle Teams.
To get involved with Shillingstone Cricket Club give them a call on 01258 861044.
Shillingstone Railway Station is well worth a visit. Restoration work started sometime ago with a view to eventually being able to run train rides from the station.
Nestling at the foot of Hambledon Hill, the Old Ox Inn Shillingstone is a haven for walkers, ramblers and cyclists with wonderful walks and excellent bike rides all around us.
Access to Trailways is just 500 yards from the pub garden and the Wessex Ridgeway Trail, a magnificent ridge-top route crossing Dorset's rural heartland is close by too.
The Old Ox Inn Shillingstone offers homemade traditional food, freshly prepared using local ingredients, including a choice of roasts on Sundays. We can also cater for your own function.
You'll find a wide range of drinks at the Old Ox, including regularly changing local real ales, wines by the glass and bottle, ciders, lagers, gins, spirits and zero or no alcohol options too.
